Maria came to us as a young stray girl who was very friendly and had obviously once been a pet. However she had been found abandoned, hungry and pregnant at 8 months - still a kitten herself! While female cats can get pregnant from 5-6 months old - being so young can and often leads to complications.

Maria was brought into the Trust and in time her the kittens were born - however we quickly noticed something was wrong, she didn't seem to know what to do and we had to cut the cords ourselves. She was completely uninterested, we tried to encourage her to feed them, but she wasn't having any of it. So we were forced to step in and begin feeding them ourselves unfortunately without mum none survived more than a few days. It could be that Maria getting pregnant so young caused genetic problems with the kittens and lead to her rejection of them. But her lack of instinct to bite through the cord herself suggests she was simple out of her depth and not ready to be a mum cat.

Maria herself is an absolute sweetheart - she loves attention and getting pats and cuddles. Still being a kitten she loves to run around and play games. After being allowed to get pregnant (which takes its toil on a mum's health) then abandoned by her 'caregivers' and left to fend for herself poor Maria deserves to have a real family. One who will give her all the love and care that she should have had all along!
