Ways to Help
Volunteers Needed
We need volunteers at our Mangere East premises.
As we have up to eighty cats at our premises at any given time it's a lot of work.
We would greatly appreciate any help you can offer, so if you have a free couple of hours each day/week/month please volunteer to lend a hand.
Jobs at the cattery include:
- Washing food- and waterbowls, and catboxes
- Mopping floors
- Preparing food for the cats, cleaning out nighttime beds
- Playing with the cats and kittens helps socialise them and keep them happy
We particularly need volunteers for evenings and weekends.
If you are interested please give us a call or email us to arrange what day may work best for you, so we can roster you on.
If you are not able to get to our premises there are many other ways in which you could bring care to these animals, such as sponsoring a cat - some of whom have very sad tales to tell.Sponsoring
If you have ever wanted to help homeless cats but can't adopt or help at our premises, perhaps you would be able to sponsor an animal. For a small weekly or monthly donation you will receive a photo of the cat you are sponsoring, and updates via either email or post.
When your cat finds a "forever home", you will receive a thank-you card and be able to choose a new cat to sponsor.
Every little bit helps but we do encourage a minimum of $20 a month, which will cover the feeding of one cat per month. If you would like to sponsor more, here is a guide to what costs are for the general upkeep of the cats.
- One week's food for a single cat in the cattery: $5.00
- One week's food for a pregnant or lactating queen: $20.00
- De-fleaing and worming for one cat for one month: $10.00
- Spaying a female cat: $55
- Neutering a male cat: $40
- Vaccinating a cat: $35
Other ways to help
- Perhaps you could save your newspapers for us and drop them out to us. Newspaper is used for the cats' bedding, lining cages and litterboxes and is always appreciated.
- Perhaps you are able to pick up cats and cattraps, or transport cat food from donating companies.
- We would love to have someone to do maintenance on cat
cages - painting, repairs to cages (some of the cats have strong claws!)
- Perhaps you could help out with out fundraising such as
helping out at BBQ's or putting up flyers (which we can provide) at
your local vets, dairies or places which will allow flyers to be put
up.
- A vinyl-layer to lay vinyl floors in the cattery
If you can help in any way or are interested in volunteering, sponsoring or generally wanting to volunteer time, please email us for further information, or phone either +64-(09)-276-9960 or 027-426-4374.
